Timpul tău. Your Time

Of!
Of!

YOUR TIME
To paraphrase: what is time? If nobody asks me, I know; if someone asks me, I kinda can't tell him(her) anything. This can't be affirmed solely about time, but time is here taken into account. What is this thing called time, that people always say they don't have it? Why do we have to spend our time to read this, what are we going to make time from? We are time-travelers and, as a movie character wondered, have we earned our right to travel in any direction whatsoever? Can this thought travel in time, can it gather myself from past into something good, can it strengthen me, can it grow inside me?  Man from the future, here's my request to you, lay me down nicely, make me better than this time that we share together! Well, if you don't spend your time, then how can you be in a rush  to watch your step? For it is so nice this time spent here with you, why on Earth would you give it to anyone else, meaningless... Can I sit somewhere without being sometime? Is my movement time or am I just moving or maybe I don't change myself but it only seems to me, am I deceived,  am I only a child that doesn't stand seeing everything without time, to see myself from youth to old age - am I scared? Would you give me time, just a bit, I beg of you, to find out together what separates us? What transcendental censorship bars us from time-traveling, is it because of those morons that would kill they grandparents, so much time wasted... Alas! Alas, if an angel would sing to me for an hour I believe I would wake up in years and years, I wouldn't regret, each one has his(her) own life does what he(she) wants with it and I'm nobody in front of my relatives and people from here or now, from this place, this country, region that doesn't appreciate its villagers, who marry others from other villages just because that villager belongs to that space, you see...Why wouldn't I listen to a singing angel to wake up with you, man from future, for you to tell me it was all worthy, that this time-travel was for my own good?
This time from past that isn't any longer, so it doesn't exist, so I wasn't stupid some while ago. This future time that is not, so I won't ever be smart. Surely nowadays some "scientific man" would blame me that I'm not precise in his idiotic way of being his time is like Newton's, or not, wait a second, they changed their mind because nowadays Einstein is trendy, so why wouldn't he tie the time to his tridimensional coffee space and explain to you in a cramped manner how you can't understand his overcomplicated mathematical language, although his analogies are quite childish and sells them as if they were time itself (per se).
Of time, I have only learned from my mother that I have to hurry up 'cause I'm late, though she's the best teacher of man, but she is preoccupied with something else now, because it's not trendy for them to be deep (they, our mothers). So you see, time has to be trendy... Go on, go on, you'll be late!! Alas! I do not accuse you for not offering me this time that nobody has, calm down! But I have some super cool friends with whom I could discuss until I would cry and I'm so silly, I don't know this... because in spite of your good advice not to rag off, not to waste my time, mother, I didn't know what it is to have it.
It is made from love, surely can I speculate this, it is a gift of mercy bigger than life, it has love in its essence, for I looked at some trees and I know it precisely. It's like a turtle that moves slowly in time, as it perceives itself to be ugly, and because of it the turtle lives longer, with that snout of it smells the future, just that, yeah, it shell saves it in our eyes, it's cute. Surely we could take from the program set inside a raven and live longer, maybe nine hundred sixty nine years like Methuselah I would ask like Adam, well, why did you take me so fast by surprise it was as if I would enter a door and exit a different one. Or to stand still like a tree that lives thousands of years and finally understand everything, as I can't get bored with these branches of mine that draw the infinity on the sky and through shadow...
It has a path as in a forest, trodden by your feet only, when I was a boy I was wandering in the forests and I haven't stopped yet, but I eventually want to stand still and know you, I will sometime come to you and know you as you are, be like you, why not me, what, I do not want, 'cause I want!!?
It has music also, sung when it was no time, 'cause you can rightly do something just in time like a music and then move yourself so that dogs can envy you for your walking, graceful and adorned.
Look, here's the way things are: I've heard sometime of two, one would say that everything is static, kinda static in himself, another that everything flows, just like in a psalm in which you can't immerse yourself two times the same way, although, I repeat, I began to be complicated, but you see if you don't understand my word why blame something that is more complicated than this, that it doesn't exist. This attitude hurts me so... Complex is simple in your mind, yes, but I don't know how...
It's like Plato's One and Many, for the infinite to exist it must call itself One, quantitatively and the One quantitatively to become infinite so that the limit exist, the quality, a small part... I admit that I do not understand it very well either, 'cause otherwise my Logos would be about God, but at least flicker I like a fire! Let me burn down the house of time! Despite all these I believe that the atomists are wrong, I believe you can zoom infinitely in space and time, 'cause he couldn't speak differently, he. My beloved one, my dear, don't, don't be offended, but read many times more. Yet I admit, I repeat, for you to understand as a man that I don't understand very well either.
And now that time has come and the order when we go further without turning back I would love to, but not now, we can't. Look, I'm watching this movie with the river and I don't understand, I see that he's also like a leaf to some extent and I play forwards and backwards, everything sounds fine. I watch this movie with this forest and rewind back and forth and all flows like the river to some extent, the wind blows into the leaves to some extent, resembles me. I'm watching this movie with this herd of sheep and I keep playing forwards and backwards and they still go up the mountain and it seems like the harmony is not corrupted, still singing, and the mountain looks similar to some extent. I rummaged the soil but couldn't find the thread to pull off and unravel the earth and the sky like a flannel, I couldn't break it. And how many gathered and thought it was like a stool you balance on and breaks apart, but look you see it's very craft-fully made. And I sit and think again and again how this saying goes, Sir, if you're more than this, I was thinking about giving you this much I thank you for everything. And when I digress some bug draws my attention, turns me back to my thoughts. I'm telling you this is well thought!! And I would give anything to have the lost time! 'Cause I like it now. And as someone should be living here now, why would tomorrow come, I'm happy with today, thank you very much, I would stand here a millennium, like a mole. I can hardly wait to die!

Philosophical Remarks on Philosophical Remarks

"A proposition is completely logically analyzed if its grammar is made completely clear: no matter what idiom it may be written or expressed in."
(Ludwig Wittgenstein, Philosophical Remarks (1930), Part I (1))

Wittgenstein's "obsession" with grammar is thus clarified: one cannot proceed with the analysis of a proposition unless "its" grammar is fully understood. This "its" looks quite peculiar. Usually we tend to think of the grammar of a specific language, for instance, the grammar of the Romanian language. Then we can look into the grammar of a proposition expressed in Romanian. What does Wittgenstein mean by "the grammar of a proposition"? Does he mean the rules that make that proposition meaningful? Does he point to the syntax of a proposition or rather to its semantics? Well, perhaps he had both in mind, but we shall see if I'm right. Grammar refers to both syntax of propositions and semantics. It follows that one has to study these two in order to make sense of what a proposition is about. However, my own assertion seems to be circular: to "make sense" of something is to refer to its semantics, not to its syntax. Now, can I understand a meaningful proposition unless I know its syntax? Do I have to know that in the proposition "A tree is in my yard" the word "a tree" is a grammatical subject in order to understand what it means? No, I don't have to. It follows that Wittgenstein does not bear in mind the dictionary definition of grammar. What is his notion of grammar? Does it apply only to statements or to all kinds of sentences? Let's extend upon this. Suppose Wittgenstein would refer to sentences in general, not only to propositions. Then one should clarify the grammar of a random sentence. If I say "Wait a minute, Mr. Postman!", what rules do I have to make sense of, given that the sentence expresses a request, so it falls into the category of imperative sentences? This sort of question would produce a pseudo-problem. I can't logically analyze sentences that don't fall into the category of "propositions". However, I intuitively sense some underlying rules that implicitly emerge from "Wait a minute, Mr. Postman!". I couldn't say "Wait minute a, Postman Mr.!", but I could say "Mr. Postman, wait a minute!", although this illocutionary act might not produce the same per-locutionary effect (ok, you'd have to read Austin to understand this one, sorry :) ). We are aware that the order of words has changed and that has impacted upon the pragmatics of the proposition. That makes us be aware of the existence of some "invisible" rules. These rules have also been disturbed, with two differences arising: in the first case, the order of words breaks down the rules completely, so that any sane reader does not understand what I mean; in the second one, the order of words has changed in a way that I'm familiar with, so that even if I might not be as persuasive as in my original imperative claim, anyone can understand what I'm saying. So there are rules even in non-declarative sentences (propositions or logical sentences), but they are somehow hidden or implicitly assume. That's why, I think, Wittgenstein doesn't get into this topic: it can be dangerous to tackle on something that is only "intuitively sensed". Had he lived more than 62 years, his third period would have been acknowledged as related to it.
